iNFOTV In-Room Solutions

This guide outlines the two primary in-room solutions for delivering television services in senior living communities: Traditional In-Room Cable Channels and App-Based Community Channels. It details how each option works, their benefits, and the responsibilities of iNFOTV and the cable provider.

  1. Step 1

    Overview
Senior living communities typically deliver resident television services using one of two approaches:
Traditional In-Room Cable Channels delivered through the property's cable infrastructure.

App-Based Community Channels delivered through streaming devices such as Fire TV or Android TV.

The best solution depends on the property's existing infrastructure, cable provider, resident experience goals, and long-term technology strategy.

  2. Step 2

Option 1: Traditional In-Room Cable Channels

    How It Works
In-room cable channel deployments are primarily dependent on the property's existing cable provider and infrastructure. iNFOTV provides a simple plug-and-play media device that outputs video via HDMI. The cable provider's network determines whether local channels can be added, how many channels are available, and what additional equipment may be required.

Once a compatible channel insertion point is available, iNFOTV serves as the content source while the cable provider or AV integrator manages the distribution of that content throughout the community.

What Types of Cable Systems Do You Support?
iNFOTV can integrate with most cable TV systems that support the addition of a local channel. Our device outputs HDMI, which must be accepted by the property's cable distribution equipment either directly or through a compatible encoder/modulator.

    What Are the Technical Requirements?
The property must have cable infrastructure capable of accepting and distributing a local video source. In most modern systems, this requires an available HDMI-compatible encoder/modulator or the ability to add one. Channel allocation and configuration are controlled by the cable provider or AV integrator.

Are There Cable Providers or Infrastructure Setups You Cannot Support?
iNFOTV does not control the cable infrastructure. Some systems may not support local channel insertion without additional hardware, modifications, or provider approval. Feasibility is determined by the property's existing cable provider and network architecture.

Can You Support a Dedicated In-Room Custom Channel?
Yes. A dedicated custom channel can be provided, subject to the cable system having an available channel allocation and compatible input method.

Can You Support Multiple In-Room Channels?
Yes. Multiple channels can be supported. Each channel requires its own iNFOTV media device and a corresponding channel allocation on the cable system. The practical limit is determined by the cable provider's available channel capacity and equipment configuration.

    Legacy Cable Systems
For older systems that accept standard-definition composite video instead of HDMI, iNFOTV can provide an HDMI-to-composite modulator. Channel availability and quantity remain dependent on the cable provider's infrastructure and allocated channel capacity.

    Typical Responsibilities

    iNFOTV
    Provides the content platform

    Provides the HDMI media device

    Manages content updates and support

    Cable Provider / AV Integrator
    Determines channel availability

Provides or installs insertion equipment if required

Configures and distributes channels throughout the property

  3. Step 3

    Option 2: App-Based Community Channels

    How It Works
Many cable providers and streaming platforms are increasingly moving away from traditional cable channel distribution and toward app-based solutions delivered through streaming devices such as Amazon Fire TV, Android TV and Google TV.

In this model, each resident room is equipped with a streaming device rather than relying on the property's cable infrastructure to distribute a dedicated channel. The iNFOTV app is installed directly on the device and connects to the internet to display community information, dining menus, activities, announcements, photos, videos, and other content.

    Key Benefits
No dependency on cable channel allocation

No need for channel insertion equipment

No requirement for cable system modifications

    Easier deployment and expansion

    Centralized management and support

    Interactive resident experience

    On-demand access to information

Future-ready platform that can evolve with resident needs

    Resident Experience
Traditional cable channels provide a passive viewing experience where residents wait for information to cycle through. App-based solutions provide an interactive experience where residents can instantly access:
    Dining menus

    Activities and events

    Community announcements

    Resident communications

    Photos and videos

    Wellness and engagement content

    Compatibility with Existing TV Services
For communities where residents maintain individual television subscriptions, app-based solutions can coexist alongside provider applications such as Xfinity and Bell streams. Residents can access both their television programming and community information from the same device.

    Typical Responsibilities

    iNFOTV
Provides the streaming device (if required)

Deploys and supports the iNFOTV application

    Manages content and platform updates

    Provides ongoing support

    Community
    Provides internet connectivity

    Provides or approves resident-room devices

    Summary
Both solutions are used in senior living communities today.

    Traditional Cable Channels
    Leverages existing cable TV infrastructure

    Familiar resident experience

Dependent on cable provider capabilities and channel availability

May require additional hardware and third-party coordination

    App-Based Community Channels
    Independent of cable infrastructure

Fully deployed and supported by iNFOTV

    Interactive and on-demand experience

Easier to scale and enhance over time

The optimal approach depends on the property's existing infrastructure, operational goals, and desired resident experience.
